Eugen de Blaas was born July 24th 1843 in Albano Laziale Italy to Karl de Blaas who was an established historical and religious painter while his mother Anna was both pianist and singer.

Eugen began studying art early, initially with his father at Venice's Academy of Fine Arts before proceeding to Paris to study under Jean-Léon Gérôme and Rome for further study.

de Blaas began working in his father's style but quickly developed his own unique aesthetic. He is best known for genre paintings depicting Venetian life. These bright works feature lively compositions with vivid hues and realistic depictions of people and places.

de Blaas achieved his first significant breakthrough in 1877 when he displayed "On the Balcony" at the Paris Salon. This painting received both critical acclaim and commercial success, cementing de Blaas as a master painter of genre subjects.

de Blaas showed his works throughout Europe and America for much of his lifetime, becoming an accomplished and beloved painter who was accepted into both Venice's Academy of Fine Arts and London's Royal Academy of Arts.

de Blaas passed away at Venice at age 87 on February 10, 1931.

de Blaas is still widely revered today, his paintings offering charming and nostalgic depictions of Venice at the turn of the 20th century. His pieces can be found in major museums worldwide.
